What is a patient advocate?

A patient advocate is a professional who helps you understand and manage your healthcare journey. Advocates work alongside you — reviewing information, coordinating care, and ensuring your voice is heard in every medical decision.

How does Affirmd Advocacy differ from hospital case managers or social workers?

Hospital-based staff often focus on logistics within their facility. At AffirMD, we work independently — representing you, not a hospital or insurer. Our only goal is to ensure your needs, values, and preferences guide every healthcare choice.

What kinds of CLIENTs do you help?

We assist individuals and families facing new diagnoses, complex medical decisions, ongoing chronic care, or confusion around treatment options. Whether you’re managing multiple providers or need clarity after a hospital stay, we’re here to help.

Do you help clients outside of the chicagoland area?

We offer specialty in-person services to clients in the Chicagoland area. However, with our virtual advocacy services we are able to work with clients locally & nationwide.

Can you attend appointments or communicate with my doctors?

Absolutely! With your consent, we can join appointments virtually or in-person to help take notes, ask questions, and clarify next steps. We also communicate directly with your providers to ensure your care plan stays consistent and coordinated.

Are advocacy services covered by insurance?

Currently, private advocacy services are typically not covered by insurance. However, many clients find the clarity and time saved far outweigh the cost — helping prevent unnecessary tests, charges, delays, or medical errors.

Do patient adovcates provide medical advice?

Advocates do not make decisions or recommendations regarding specific treatment options, provide medical opinions, or perform medical care of any type, even if they possess clinical training or credentials. Advocates also do not provide legal or financial advice.

What if I only need help with one issue?

No problem! We can provide tailored consultations or focused advocacy services to best suit your needs.

How do I get started with Affirmd Advocacy?

Simply contact us to schedule an initial consultation. During that conversation, we’ll learn about your situation, explain our process, and outline how we can best support your healthcare journey.
